Dear Bobcat Families, As we begin the school year, we want to emphasize the importance of regular attendance and arriving at school on time. Every instructional minute matters, and consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in helping students stay on track academically and feel connected to their school community. We understand that life happens. Students may become sick, and family emergencies or unexpected circumstances can arise that make missing school unavoidable. When absences are necessary, we ask that students and families take an active role in helping students get caught up and return to learning as quickly as possible. For planned absences, such as family travel or other commitments, please encourage your student to communicate with their teachers ahead of time whenever possible. Giving teachers advance notice allows students to better understand what they will miss and can help prevent them from feeling overwhelmed when they return. When a student is absent, we encourage families and students to: β€’ Communicate with teachers. Students should email their teachers when they know they will be absent and communicate with them when they return. Our teachers regularly check their email and work hard to communicate with students and families. β€’ Check StudentVUE and ParentVUE. These platforms are valuable resources for checking grades, assignments, and any work that may be missing. β€’ Take ownership of missed work. If a student is unable to complete work or obtain everything they need while absent, they should check in with the teacher when they return and ask what they need to do to get caught up. β€’ Use WIN Time. Students can take advantage of WIN Time to meet with teachers, review missed notes or content, complete assignments, or make up a quiz or test when appropriate. Students should take the initiative to ask to be sent to a particular teacher during WIN Time if they need additional support. β€’ Establish a consistent homework routine. We encourage families to establish a regular time each evening dedicated to completing homework, reviewing notes, and finishing any work that was not completed during the school day. A consistent routine can make a significant difference in helping students stay organized and reduce the stress that can come from falling behind. Ultimately, student success requires a partnership between students, families, and teachers. We want every student to have a successful and positive school year, and that requires students to take ownership of their learning, be responsible for their work, communicate with their teachers, and make attendance a priority. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We appreciate everything you do at home to help our students show up, be ready to learn, and make the most of every day at school. Go Bobcats!

We are so proud of our Bobcats! Students are showing kindness, responsibility, respect, and great manners each day. These small actions are making a BIG difference in our school community!

A special thank you to our families for the wonderful example and support you provide at home. ❀️

Don’t forgetβ€”Open House is next week! We look forward to welcoming families to campus and beginning the year by building strong relationships and community.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up

When arriving for student drop-off or pick-up, please use only the main parking lot or the church parking lot behind our school buildings. No student drop-off or pick-up is allowed in the small school lot off of Tanque Verde Loop - this lot is too small to ensure the safety of our students during drop-off and pick-up.

Pick-Up & Drop-Off Guidelines:

Use only the main lot or church lot
Pull forward to the nearest vehicle to ensure maximum available space in the line
Consider parking in an open space instead of waiting in line
Be aware of all county enforced traffic markings
Take care not to block access to private property

Crossing Guard Information:

The crossing guard is only allowed to press the crosswalk button when children are present in the crosswalk. Our crossing guard is not authorized to direct traffic. Thank you for following the school zone speed limit.

Bobcat Family Update: A Great First Week! πŸΎπŸ’™πŸ§‘

Please Note: We're sharing this week's family update in both Live Feed and Rooms to make sure all families receive the same information while our new family rosters continue to be added to Rooms.

We've wrapped up our first full week at Emily Gray Junior High, and our Bobcats are off to a fantastic start! Students have been learning routines, building relationships, and participating in grade-level assemblies focused on our school expectations and practicing the Bobcat ROARβ€”Responsibility, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect. We are so proud of the positive energy and enthusiasm our students have shown this week!

Parents, please take a few minutes this weekend to review the Bobcat Tracker with your child. When students, families, and staff are all working together with the same expectations, everyone benefits. Thank you for being an important partner in your child's success!

Helping Your Bobcat Transition to Junior High

The transition from elementary school to junior high is an exciting milestone, but it can also be a big adjustment. Instead of one teacher, students are now learning from seven different teachers, managing multiple classes, keeping track of assignments, and navigating increased independence. That learning curve is completely normal! Here are a few ways you can help make the transition a little easier.

β€’ Establish a homework routine. Choose a consistent time and quiet place for homework each day. A healthy snack after school can help students recharge before getting started.

β€’ Check ParentVUE/StudentVUE together. Spend a few minutes each week reviewing grades, assignments, and upcoming deadlines. As your child becomes more independent, encourage them to lead the conversation.

β€’ Create a distraction-free workspace. Having supplies ready before homework begins helps students stay focused.

β€’ Pack up the night before. Make sure assignments are completed, materials are packed, and the Chromebook is fully charged for the next school day.

β€’ Do a Friday backpack clean-out. Toss old papers and trash, organize important documents, and start the new week prepared.

These small, consistent habits help students build responsibility, confidence, and lifelong organizational skills. With patience, encouragement, and a strong partnership between home and school, your Bobcat will soon find their rhythm.

Partnering for Student Success

One of the reasons Emily Gray is such a special place is the strong partnership between our families and school. Together, we can create a learning environment where every Bobcat is able to thrive. Here are a few ways you can help support your child's success:

β€’ Fueling Learning: Water is the best choice for staying hydrated and focused throughout the school day. To help students do their best learning, we ask that students bring only water bottles to school. Please leave gum, sodas, flavored drinks, and energy drinks at home. If a student arrives with one of these beverages before school, they will simply be asked to finish it before entering campus.

β€’ Supporting a Safe Campus: To help maintain a safe and secure campus, we do not accept deliveries from food delivery services such as Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Grubhub during the school day. If you would like to bring lunch for your child, you are always welcome to drop it off at the front office, and we will make sure it gets to them.

Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment where every Bobcat can succeed.

Thank you for a wonderful first week! We appreciate your partnership and look forward to another great week of learning.

Have a safe, restful, and enjoyable weekend!

🐾 Emily Gray Junior High Open House – Thursday, August 20

We are excited to welcome our Bobcat families to our annual Open House on Thursday, August 20, from 5:15–7:10 p.m.

The evening will begin in the MPR at 5:15 p.m. with a brief welcome from the EGJH Administrative Team and PTSG. If you are unable to attend the welcome, you may go directly to your student's first period classroom at 5:30 p.m.

Families will follow a modified version of their student's schedule, visiting Periods 1 through 7. Each classroom presentation will be 10 minutes, with 4-minute passing periods between classes to allow time to travel from room to room. (Please note that WIN Time/Period 8 is not part of the Open House schedule.)

Open House is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teachers, learn about classroom expectations, ask questions, and begin building strong relationships for a successful school year. We encourage families to bring a copy of their student's schedule (printed or available in ParentVUE) to help navigate the evening.

Please see the attached flyer for the complete schedule and event details. We look forward to partnering with you for a fantastic year at Emily Gray Junior High. Together We Roar! 🐾
